Although electric stoves are becoming popular, many homeowners still have gas stoves. When using a gas stoves, there are a variety of things you can do to ensure safety. Make sure that the flame is only on when you are cooking. If there is nothing on the stove, the burner should be off. Regularly clean your stove to prevent food buildup and a possible fire hazard. Make sure you use the right utensils that are designed for stoves. Monitor the carbon monoxide that your stove produces. Be careful when cooking and use oven mitts and other safety tools. Regularly check for gas leaks. Keep flammable objects away from your gas stove. Have a fire extinguisher handy should something happen. Install smoke alarms to warn of any accidental fires. Install a range hood to allow proper ventilation. Always make safety a priority!
